Commercial Management (Quantity Surveying) Apprenticeship Trainee Programme – Wates Residential

Our Residential Business

Wates Residential is responding to the needs of its customers by developing housing schemes in partnership with both public and private sector organisations. Our business covers new-build and partnership housing development activities, reaffirming our long-term commitment to deliver more homes, helping to address the UK’s urgent need for new housing.

Location:

Cardiff or London

The base locations for these roles is as above, but you may be required to travel to and/or work at locations within the Residential region should the business require.

The Role

Do you enjoy working with numbers? Do you want to manage the finances of multi-million-pound projects? Then our Quantity Surveying Management Programme may be the pathway for you.

The Commercial Quantity Surveying teams within Wates are largely responsible for the contractual and financial management of a project. A combination of law, business and finance skills are used to manage relationships with key stakeholders including clients, designers, sub-contractors and suppliers. Our commercial teams play a vital role in the construction of our projects.

As a Wates Quantity Surveying trainee, you will be involved in assisting with:

  • Procurement and payment of sub-contractors
  • Preparing tender and contract documents
  • Producing commercial reports
  • Ensuring that our projects are financially viable
  • Safeguarding our commercial position

Professional Development

As well as structured on-the-job learning and technical and behavioural training, you will also complete either a higher apprenticeship in Construction Management, or a degree apprenticeship in Quantity Surveying depending on your level of education.

  • Ability to communicate with a range of people, including customers, clients and key stakeholders
  • Logical approach to problem solving
  • Eager to learn with a keen eye for detail
  • Candidates will be required to have a full driving licence by September 2022, this will be a condition of offer

Entry Requirements

  • Higher Apprenticeship: 2 A-Levels or equivalent at grades DD, and a minimum of 5 GCSE’s Grade 4/C and above, including Maths and English
  • Degree Apprenticeship: 3 A-Levels or equivalent at grades BBB or above, and a minimum of 5 GCSE’s Grade 4/C and above, including Maths and English
