If a full-time university degree is not the route for you, and you want to learn on the job M&G Investments is looking for an enthusiastic individual to join its Apprenticeship scheme working within its corporate finance department.
Throughout the 12-18 month apprenticeship you will work towards achieving relevant qualifications (including Investment Operations Certificate ("IOC") and National Vocational Qualification ("NVQ")); develop a wide range of skills and competencies by exploring the way the M&G business is run and by engaging with people across the business; receive on the job training and earn a competitive salary.
The scheme is designed to help people without degrees start their careers in corporate finance within a leading investment management company. It is not a graduate programme. Whilst the apprenticeship scheme is open for all to apply we believe this scheme would be ideally suited to a school leaver.
While this is a permanent role, you must achieve your objectives and complete the IOC and NVQ during the 18 month programme to roll off the apprenticeship scheme and permanently join the team
The Equities business at M&G is looking for an Apprentice to join its small Corporate Finance and Stewardship team. The Corporate Finance and Stewardship team looks after issues that arise from share ownership. As active, involved shareholders, the team are regularly in discussion with chairmen and non-executives across our UK and International investments covering a range of factors including long-term business planning, corporate culture, succession planning and remuneration.
The primary purpose of the role will be to provide support to the Corporate Finance team as listed below and supporting the team with any ad hoc requests. The scheme will give successful candidates a hands-on and practical introduction to corporate finance and its importance within M&G, while providing early exposure to a range of challenging business experiences.
The job can be split up into three broad categories: report writer, voting assistant and desk assistant.
Corporate Finance is commencing the process of publishing more detail of its activities both to go on the website and annual reports. This role will require an awareness of the current issues with individual stocks by attending the weekly team meeting and can write first drafts of case studies and see through the editing process to final copy.
Assist the voting team with the administration linked to the UK and International voting process as and when required.
Provide efficient support to the team on any ad-hoc projects. This could range from general assistance such as booking meetings to preparing minutes for the team's weekly meeting.
It is expected that the successful candidate will display the following qualities;
- Achieved or predicted a minimum of 240 UCAS points, or equivalent
- English and Maths GCSE (or equivalent) at grade C or above
- Keen to start a career in a financial services environment
- Highly motivated, enthusiastic and driven to succeed.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- An approachable, positive "can do" attitude
- A numerate, logical and analytical approach
- Proactive in learning new skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint with a willingness to develop these skills further
- Willingness to take part in further qualifications post Apprenticeship
