Software Engineers - Level 6 Apprenticeship

Over the course of our Group Transformation Degree Apprenticeship Programme you’ll gain insights into our business that will encourage you to learn more, as you develop both professionally and personally.
Working alongside specialists and leaders, they'll help you develop technical, leadership and customer service skills, as well as your engagement, communication and influencing skills. You’ll also build your knowledge and experience of agile working, so you’ll be prepared to step into a career that could take you anywhere within our Group. There are lots of options!
Our IT Software Development for Business Degree Apprenticeship is delivered in partnership with Glasgow Caledonian University. The programme combines workplace training with a programme focused on IT in business and includes a blend of technology, commercial and project skills. The core units include:
- Fundamentals of Computing/Software Engineering
- Object Orientated Analysis & Design
- Database Development
- Advanced Programming
- Cloud Platform Development
As well as the IT content, the Apprenticeship includes sessions on communication, presentation ad team working skills to help you become a confident digital and technology practitioner.
By the end of the programme you’ll have an understanding of how we’re constantly innovating and leading our business into a digitalized future. You’ll also see how, throughout your career, you can make an impact on people, communities, and businesses, in your own way.
On our IT Software Development for Business Degree Apprenticeship you'll work with more experienced colleagues to achieve the desired outcomes for LBG. You'll develop and apply practical knowledge in your placement as well as practice and develop the workplace skills and behaviours required for this role.
You’ll work in a highly collaborative way to complete specific projects and activities, advise actions and address problems that are often complex and non-routine. You'll take ownership for your actions, exercising responsibility, autonomy and judgement within broad parameters.
Depending on the placement and the specific requirements of the job role, key accountabilities might include:
- Develop and apply practical knowledge of the data analysis tools, concepts, approaches and techniques that fulfil our organisational requirements.
- Build and test simple, high quality code across front end logic and database layers. Responsibility might include more straightforward projects or elements of more complex projects
- Ensure that software operates as intended. Design and prepare test plans and conduct software testing as appropriate to ensure that software is fit for purpose
- Develop and apply practical knowledge of information and cyber security as well as risk management to deliver solutions that fulfil our organisational requirements

Knowledge & Experience
On successful completion of our IT Software Development for Business Degree Apprenticeship you'll achieve a BSc (Hons) in IT Software Development for Business from GCU.
This structured programme will help you to develop the knowledge and skills required to work in Group Transformation. You’ll have the opportunity to practice, develop and demonstrate the skills and experience required to perform competently as a digital leader. As well as securing a BSc (Hons) colleagues on this Apprenticeship are independently assessed to confirm they are able to demonstrate all of the competences required by the Programme.
