We’ve got an exciting new opportunity at Amey to join our Strategic Consulting team based in London. We’ve partnered with York St John university to offer a Data Science (BSc) Degree Apprenticeship Programme where you will get to work with our experienced team whilst studying for a fully funded BSc degree with a UK university.

For our Strategic Consulting team, the purpose is simple; we want to help our customers maximise business performance and efficiency through data-driven problem-solving. We help unlock value and insight from existing data which enables organisations to make better, safer, faster evidence-based decisions.

If you’re looking for a way into Data Science, the programme provides the perfect opportunity to kick start your career. Data science is an exciting and fast-evolving field blending knowledge from a range of fields: mathematics, computer science, statistics and engineering disciplines. Data scientists are inquisitive, and they explore and visualise data of all kinds to address complex real-worlds problems.

As a Data Science Apprentice at Amey, you’ll be involved in developing entirely new ways of using data to solve problems in the physical infrastructure sector. You’ll have lots of opportunities to apply the skills and knowledge you have gained during the degree to solving practical real-world problems.

As part of the Data Science team you will:

  • Work on a variety of data analysis competencies and building your professional skills and knowledge
  • Analyse real-world data to support process improvements and innovation for our clients
  • Contribute to delivering data insights through reports, real-time dashboards and intuitive data visualizations
  • Develop your computer science skills to deliver production-ready code and data-science products
  • Learn how to communicate complex scientific findings to both technical and non-technical audiences

You’ll see your work progress from data exploration and experimentation through to real world implementation making a difference to rail, road and the built environment across the UK. What you'll get whilst on the programme

  • A fully funded three and a half year Data Science degree course at York St John University (London campus) backed by on the job tailored training from our in-house experts.
  • Experience and competency development leading to the award of Data Science BSc status through successful completion of the end point assessment. Beyond this, there will be an opportunity to progress onto an MSc programme to deepen your knowledge and skills if you wish.
  • A competitive starting salary (from £18,135 per year) rising in line with your progress and achievements.
  • Working as a consultant in a professional team you will play a key role in using data to draw insights and provide recommendations to our clients.
  • A structured programme of targeted training and development activities, designed to complement what you will learn at university and whilst working

What we're looking for

  • Willingness to travel to York St John University and attend week-long study blocks throughout the year at the London campus.
  • Available to join the programme in September 2021.
  • Passion for developing your skills both professional and personally.
  • A commitment to complete a three and a half year degree course whilst working.
  • Interest in using mathematics to solve problems and interest in machine learning and working with computers.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Qualification requirements –Typically 120 UCAS points from A Levels or BTEC which must include Mathematics plus another Science/Technology subject, e.g. Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science or Engineering (predicted/achieved). We will also consider evidence of equivalent potential based on professional experience for mid-career applicants considering a change in direction to develop skills in a new area.
  • 5 GCSEs including English Language and Maths at grade C or 4.
