The world of Banking and Financial services is complex, and there are many rules, regulations and risks which need to be considered to allow HSBC to protect both our customers and the communities in which we operate. This is where Compliance comes in. Acting as a safeguard for the bank, compliance is made up of a number of specialist teams using advanced technology in order to support the safe growth of our organisation and ensure we are serving our customers fairly.

Working as part of our Compliance Assurance Professional Practices (CAPP) function, this role will see you working closely with the wider team in order to develop and implement automated testing tools relevant to our key Compliance risks in line with Global test scripts. Alongside this, you will also support Compliance Assurance review teams through the delivery of review-based analytics. Your work will not only ensure our organisation operates in the correct way, but also aspire to constantly raise the bar and set industry-leading standards within our Compliance arena.

The ideal applicant for this role is someone who not only has a passion for data, but can also interpret that data in order to create or support suggestions and recommendations. Proactivity and time management is key, as not only will you working towards a level 4 Data Analyst qualification you will also be expected to take full advantage of all available learning opportunities (such as on the job learning and a variety of online resources), and be able to work at pace with changing priorities.

Compliance is a global function that brings together all aspects of regulatory and financial crime risk management. Acting as risk stewards, and incorporating a range of specialist teams, we work together with the business and leverage advanced technology to help HSBC navigate a complex regulatory landscape and embed a sustainable approach to compliance risk management that supports safe growth and serves customers fairly. Compliance aspires to continuously raise the bar and set leading standards across the industry to help HSBC safeguard its customers and the communities within which it operates.

The Compliance Assurance sub-function is responsible for assurance activities across first and second lines of defence in relation to financial crime and regulatory compliance risk in all Global Businesses, functions and geographies to meet the Group’s regulatory obligations and to provide assurance to key stakeholders and the HSBC Board on the effectiveness of key controls which serve to mitigate compliance risk.

The Automation & Analytics team forms part of the Compliance Assurance Professional Practices (CAPP) function. Our remit is to support the Compliance Assurance division through:

  • driving the adoption of analytics within Compliance Assurance reviews;
  • working in partnership with Compliance Assurance review teams, utilising analytics to bring new insights into our assurance activities;
  • developing automated, scalable and repeatable ‘self-service’ testing tools for Compliance Assurance; and
  • supporting the implementation of automated tools to enhance the consistency, efficiency and effectiveness of assurance conducted by Compliance Assurance.

We are currently seeking an individual to join this team in the role of Automation & Analytics Analyst Apprentice

In this role, you will:

  • support the development and implementation of automated testing tools relevant to our key Compliance risks and in accordance with Compliance Assurance global test scripts; and
  • support Compliance Assurance review teams through the delivery of review based analytics.

The base location for this role is Birmingham

  • Level 4 Data Analyst Apprenticeship

Qualifications

  • Minimum 96 UCAS points at A level or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) including English and Mathematics

Skills and qualities

  • Clear communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A desire to learn and work at pace with changing priorities
  • Being highly proactive and effectively managing your own time
  • Being an effective networker with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships
  • Experience of the work place, which can also include through volunteering or work experience
