Composite Engineer - Laminator Level 3 Apprenticeship

CML specialises in the manufacture of GRP and FRP mouldings. The team has many years of boat building and moulding experience, and a proven track record of successful project delivery, both in the United Kingdom and internationally.

Recent projects include 9 off 16M Fast Pilot Boats for Holyhead Marine. The boat is designed by Camarc Ltd and is built to drawings approved by Lloyds Register of Shipping in accordance with the (LRS) Special Service Craft (SSC) rules. Lloyds Register also inspect all work carried out on a weekly basis at CML's facility in Marchwood.

We are now looking to extend our team by appointing an apprentice to join our highly skilled team:

The apprentice will be trained in all aspects:

  • Laminating and manufacturing
  • Use of materials and mouldings
  • Hand layup
  • Plug and mould making
  • Resin moulding
  • Vacuum Bag Moulding
  • Testing materials
  • Understanding and interpreting designs

The Apprentice will undergo regular pay reviews.

Training to be provided

Fully Qualified Composite Apprentice

  • Level 3 Composites technician technical certificate
  • NVQ Level 3 Composites Engineer
  • English and maths Level 2 - if required

Desired qualifications

4x GCSE at grade 4/C or above, or equivalent, including English and maths.

Future prospects

Composite Mouldings are a growing enterprise and are looking to train and develop the apprentice to grow with the business as their previous apprentices have.

About Composite Mouldings

The company specialises in producing high quality mouldings; therefore, the main bulk of staff are composite engineers, many are able to work with both Polyester and Epoxy, Wet Lay-up, Vacuum and Resin Infusion. There are a few specialist Shipwrights who carry out plug/fitting work and vacancies become available accordingly.

CML are a Lloyds Assessed company (who inspect us weekly), work is weight controlled and there is an element of record keeping, the atmosphere is relaxed but everybody gets on with their work at a comfortable pace and always to a very high quality.
