Electrical Level 3 Apprenticeship

So, we are looking for Apprentices to work within our Commercial Services team who are responsible for the repair, maintenance and servicing of our homes. No day will be the same, you will have the opportunity to continually develop your skills and industry knowledge, working on different projects with a team who will support and guide you through your apprenticeship.

About the role:

  • You will gain an oversight of how we maintain, repair and service our homes whilst delivering brilliant customer service
  • You will learn the relevant aspects of day-to-day property repairs, maintenance and servicing within our properties
  • You will learn and undertake tasks as directed by your Supervisor with an emphasis on customer satisfaction, high standards and quality
  • You will learn and develop your knowledge and competence in your chosen trade
  • You will learn and demonstrate an understanding of health and safety requirements, other relevant legislation and Codes of Practice
  • You will provide brilliant customer service to our customers
  • You will live the Yarlington Values in everything that you do
  • You will attend college and complete all course work on time and to a high standard

As part of the Yarlington apprenticeship programme, you will have a welcoming and supportive team around you to ensure your apprenticeship is a success. This includes a dedicated mentor who will work alongside you to show you everything there is about working as a Trades Operative at Yarlington, a Supervisor who will prioritise your health and safety and work requirements and a Talent Lead who will oversee your progress and regularly review this with you to ensure you are making the most of your apprenticeship.

Your base will be Yeovil, however you will also work within a team that maintain our properties within the surrounding areas too.

The length of this apprenticeship programme is 4 years.

Training to be provided

  • Yeovil College and the employer will work in partnership to deliver the Installation Electrician Standard Level 3 apprenticeship, including the Level 3 Electrotechnical qualification (installation)
  • Functional Skills in English and maths if required

Electricians will use engineering knowledge and understanding to apply their technical and practical skills. They will contribute to the design, development, manufacture, construction, commissioning, operation or maintenance of products, equipment, processes, systems or services. Electricians must:

  • Understand and apply the principles, practices and legislation for the termination and connection of conductors, cables and cords in electrical systems
  • Understand and apply the practices and procedures for the preparation and installation of wiring systems and electrotechnical equipment in buildings, structures and the environment
  • Understand and apply the principles, practices and legislation for the inspection, testing, commissioning and certification of electrotechnical systems and equipment in buildings, structures and the environment
  • Understand and apply the principles, practices and legislation for diagnosing and correcting electrical faults in electrotechnical systems and equipment in buildings, structures and the environment
  • Understand and apply the electrical principles associated with the design, building, installation and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems
  • Oversee and organise the work environment.

In addition, Installation Electricians must:

  • Understand and apply the principles of planning and selection for the installation of electrotechnical equipment and systems in buildings, structures and the environment.

In all of these activities, Electricians must understand and apply health and safety and environmental regulations, guidance notes and relevant codes of practice; and the requirements of the current edition of the Wiring Regulations.

Apprentices will also learn and demonstrate the required behavioural attributes and interpersonal skills required of an Installation Electrician.

Desired qualifications

  • GCSE English and maths grade A* - C (9 - 4) or other equivalent qualification
  • (Applicants without the required level of English and maths will be required to undertake and achieve a relevant Functional Skills qualification as part of the apprenticeship programme)

Future prospects

Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will be in a great position to be considered for a permanent role within the Company in one of our specialised trade teams.

Things to consider

  • Before your application is sent to Yarlington Housing Group, you will be required to undertake a video/telephone interview with Yeovil College during the week beginning 10th August. 
  • Yarlington's Apprenticeship Shortlisting interviews and selection will take place during the week commencing 17th August or 31st August.
  • All successful applicants will be required to complete online initial assessments in English & Maths (regardless of their prior qualification level) prior to the apprenticeship starting.
  • Please note that the advertised start date is provisional and will be confirmed upon appointment.
