Engineering Degree Apprenticeship
SN16 0RP, Malmesbury, Wiltshire
Undergraduates live onsite for 1st year
At The Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology, you’re an engineer from day one. Tough projects. Real responsibilities.
Our four year engineering programme uses the degree apprenticeship model of delivery, which combines:
- an academic course of study: BEng(Hons) Engineering,
- a work-based element of learning: the Level 6 Product Design and Development Engineer apprenticeship standard.
You’ll learn about engineering through hands-on experience and work alongside a team of Dyson Technology experts three days of the week. The rest of the week will be dedicated to your studies.
In your first year, you’ll complete three engineering rotations, focusing on mechanical, electronics hardware, and software. There are three more rotations in your second year, in different teams. This will help to consolidate your understanding of engineering fundamentals in practice.
As a first year Undergraduate Engineer, you will live on-site in a modern accommodation pod designed by renowned architect Chris Wilkinson. Set in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside, the campus is within easy driving distance of the thriving cities of Bristol, Bath and Gloucester. And there’s always something going on at Dyson – whether it’s a charity bike ride, a pumpkin carving challenge, or a 24 hour hackathon competition.
The first two years will give you a strong foundation in general engineering theory and practice, before you specialise in years three and four. For these final two years, we'll give you the opportunity to state your preferred pathway and you will be placed in a team depending on your preferences, skills and the business need. The engineering fundamentals that you learn in your studies will be put to practice through your role within our Global Engineering team.
With Dyson’s expertise across motors, fluid dynamics, separation systems, energy storage, robotics, software and hair science, you’ll have the chance to work within a number of technical disciplines. During the programme you may also get the opportunity to work in our Bristol software hub, and our technology and design centres in Singapore and Malaysia.
For the work-based element of the programme you will work to the Product Design and Development Engineer apprenticeship standard.
The Dyson Institute of Engineering and Technology is unlike any other higher education institution. It’s for those with a passion for solving problems and a fascination for how things work; brave people who’d rather get hands-on with real engineering challenges.
You will be part of a small and close-knit cohort, while simultaneously being part of a 4,600-strong team of smart and ambitious Dyson people on campus.
However you decide to spend your time here, you’ll be part of a community of people who inspire each other. You’ll also have our on-site student support services to help you thrive.
Life at Dyson is fast-paced. We disrupt each technology category that we enter. With cutting-edge facilities, world-leading engineers and real projects that bring theory to life, our Undergraduates are equipped to develop transformational future technologies.
