Packaging Professional Level 6 Apprenticeship Programme

As a Packaging Research & Development Apprentice you will be a part of one of two globally renowned Unilever teams.

In Colworth; you will become part of our Global Refreshment Packaging team working with Scientists and Engineers leading the way in developing new innovative and sustainable packaging and products within the Beverages and Ice Cream categories for our millions of global consumers.

You’ll work in our packaging labs to gain knowledge and skills that will really bring the packaging journey to life, this could see you spending time in areas like:

  • measurement & testing
  • design & manufacturing
  • materials
  • packing and filling operations

In Port Sunlight; you will become part of our R&D Hair Packaging team.

Through our new, purpose-built, Advance Manufacturing Centre (AMC) Research & Development Facility you’ll experience all the functional areas to help you deliver great products as a Unilever packaging professional.

Developing your R&D knowledge and skills that will really bring the packaging journey to life you could spend time in key areas like:

  • supply chain
  • consumer understanding
  • manufacturing

Both roles provide the opportunity for continual development of your Research & Development skills in a modern FMCG environment.

This sponsored degree will see Unilever support you as you study toward a BSC Degree in Packaging Technology, spending around 20% of your work-week studying toward your degree through learning modules at University and topped up with ongoing study outside of work hours.

Duration: 60 months


  • Have or are predicted 3 A Levels (or equivalent) at Grade B or above. 2 of these should be in STEM subjects (e.g. Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Maths, further Maths)
  • Have at least 5 GCSEs at Grade 5 or above including Maths, English and at least 2 STEM subjects.
  • You’ll have a real passion and genuine interest in Science, Materials and Food Packaging
