Building Surveying Level 3 Apprenticeship

As a TfL building surveyor, you will be part of the world renowned TfL Engineering. You will gain the unique experience of working as a building surveyor on essential infrastructure designed to keep London moving. You will assist in a wide variety of construction projects in the TfL portfolio, from routine maintenance to major station redevelopments.

What you’ll need:

  • 5 GCSE’s Grade A* – C or Grade 4 and above including Maths and English language (or equivalent)
  • You must be 18 years of age by 1 September 2019 to be eligible for this scheme

We’re looking for people who are:

  • Safety orientated
  • A team player
  • Good at listening and turning feedback into action

What will I be doing?

Some of the placements you could complete are Major Projects, Commercial Development, Asset Operations and Facilities Management.

As your training develops, you’ll be able to identify building defects and advise on cost effective and appropriate ways to deal with them. You’ll support the review designs, checking they are safe for public use, manage rental income, conduct asset condition surveys and support internal refurbishments.

Where can this career take me?

You could progress into a Building Surveying post with TfL Infrastructure Engineering Built Environment Team.

This could lead to further career development opportunities such as following further studies to achieve a Level 6 BSc in Building Surveying where you will be responsible for the design and implementation of any number of projects, such as step free access across the stations.

We could also support you to achieve chartership with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Assoc RICS).

What training and support will you get?

You will be working towards a Level 3 qualification in Surveying Technician.

Typically, you will be required to attend a University which is a distance learning university.

You will be given one day per week to study, which may include workshops with the University.

Whilst on the scheme, we’ll support your technical development through a wide range of on-the-job practical experiences and placements. We’ll also support your professional development through a combination of classroom-led training courses, online training courses, mentoring opportunities and structured networking opportunities. You will receive one-to-one support throughout the programme from your scheme sponsor and your Line Manager. You’ll also be connected to a ‘buddy’ who will be a more experienced apprentice from the scheme.
