MINI - Maintenance Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship

There are three distinct areas within the MINI Plant; Body in White, Assembly and Paint. All three areas require different skill-sets and you will get the chance to work in all of them.

Training consists of the study of modern, state of the art automotive production technology, as well as the latest innovations in manufacturing techniques. This includes: robot maintenance and programming, cutting and welding using laser technology. Our core engineering training covers electronics, pneumatics, 3D modelling and printing, robotics, PLC’s, hydraulics, as well as general mechanical engineering. This training takes place in our modern onsite apprentice academy.

The technical and maintenance teams you will be working with at Plant Oxford are responsible for the rapid detection, resolution and prevention of faults within our manufacturing facilities. They are also responsible for the operation, programming and maintenance of our automated production equipment. Your final goal will be to become an integral member of these world class/high performing teams.

When it comes to selecting the right people to become apprentices, it’s as much about attitude and behaviours as it is about vocational and academic success. That’s why in addition to the qualifications we require from you, we’ll also look for you to have a range of skills, attributes and behaviours. These include: team working, as well as the ability to work without close supervision; quality focus and problem solving; excellent communication skills; showing initiative; and responsibility and accountability for your work.

Key Accountabilities

BMW offers an enhanced apprenticeship in comparison to others in industry. The four year programme is designed to give you the opportunity to experience different aspects of engineering and production technology, including: robotics, controls systems, machining, fluid power, electronics, welding and many more. You can then choose where to specialise for the remainder of the course in your ‘home’ department.

Our advisors are always available to provide individual support and guidance, enabling you to customise training to suit your skills.

In your first year you will undertake practical training to qualify you with Employers Units of Competence. Following this you will undertake competency based training. You could have the potential to move onto the Higher National Certificate (HNC) at level 4 in engineering subject to your performance and attitude. The first year of the program is purely in a learning environment where in addition to starting the academic requirements of your program, you will undertake a practical based engineering program which covers core engineering skills such as milling and turning, hand skills, electrical and electronic circuits and control and fluid power, PLC’s and many more.

Personal development within the BMW Group never stops! This begins with vocational courses and continues with selective training throughout your career.
