Project Controls Level 3 Apprenticeship

Our Project Controls Apprenticeship offers the opportunity to be part of the once in a lifetime Hinkley Point C construction project. During this three-year programme you’ll be part of one of Europe’s largest construction projects, developing key industry skills and a record of practical experience.

Overview

Hinkley Point C (HPC) will be the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK and is one of the largest infrastructure projects in Europe. Sizewell C (SZC) will be the second of this generation to be built in the UK, following the construction of HPC.

The Project Controls function within the HPC & SZC Project Team ensures that project managers and senior managers have all the information they need to make decisions throughout the life-cycle of the projects. It’s a key role with a lot of responsibility.

As a Project Controls engineer you will:

  • Work both in-office and with engineering constructions teams on site
  • Learn to master core processes such as estimating, planning, risk management and cost engineering
  • Apply your knowledge with access to the latest computer systems

The HPC & SZC Project Controls Apprenticeship Programme allows you to:

  • Kick-start your career as an EDF Energy professional working on two exciting projects
  • Spend three years learning alongside industry professionals
  • Gain practical and valuable real-world experience
  • Study for the Level 3 Project Controls Technician standard

Where you'll be based

During the course of your apprenticeship you will work as part of the New Build team based at the HPC construction site, central Bristol office, or SZC office with opportunities to work at other EDF Energy locations.

During your 3 years you will study at the National College for Nuclear, Cannington, on block release where you will complete assignments within the business which will enable you to consolidate your training.

We also have one opportunity working on our transformational Sizewell C project. This still includes study at the National College for Nuclear and your attachments, whilst on the scheme, will be at HPC and also working on Sizewell C. You’ll be based in the South West for the duration of the apprenticeship and on completion of the scheme your first substantive role would be working on Sizewell C based in the Suffolk/South East area. If you wish to be considered for this role, please select this from the option on the application form.

What we’re looking for

Where we could take you

At the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll move into a permanent role in the Project Controls team (at our HPC site in Bridgwater, the Bristol office or our SZC team currently based in London) with responsibility for a specific project area. Subject to requirements, there will be further opportunities to continue into a degree level apprenticeship, specialise, or explore other roles at EDF Energy.

What’s in it for you?

  • Earn as you learn (£15,000 first-year basic pay which grows with experience)
  • EDF Energy benefits scheme
  • Study for the Level 3 Project Controls Technician standard
  • Work towards an industry-recognised qualification
