Higher Level Apprenticeship

How did you apply for Network Rail?

I found out about it through friends and on the apprenticeship website. I initially applied for the apprenticeship online. I then had to go through a number of online tests, and the assessment day. This involved an interview and a group exercise.

What was the induction like?

The induction was great and very informative. It was the best way to meet and get to know everyone. There were lots of team building tasks, this helped to forget about any home sickness!

What do you enjoy most?

The variety of work is great. I don’t like being stuck inside all day so being able to work outside is a big bonus for me. Every day we face a different challenge, whether it’s routine maintenance or something unexpected like identifying the cause of a fault.

Joining Network Rail has allowed me to meet so many people and broaden my circle of friends. The Christmas party is always a good night out!

Why should other young people choose the Network Rail Apprentice scheme?

As a young person, Network Rail set you up for life by giving you a career. The railway will always be something that is needed. They give you any help and guidance that you need, but also allow you to learn to work things out for themselves. The whole scheme just helps you to grow as an individual in and outside of work.

How has Network Rail’s apprenticeship affected your career prospects?

It has improved my career prospects massively. There are many opportunities to move up with in the company and develop as a person.
