Higher Level Apprenticeship

I had worried that, due to its sheer size, Capgemini UK might just be one of those faceless corporations where an apprentice could easily be shoved in a corner and forgotten about. The reality is quite different. We have regular contact with our managers and colleagues and we are constantly kept busy with new tasks to complete or assist with. My experience of being an Apprentice within Infra has been brilliant and I couldn't be happier with my place in the business.

Welcoming nature of everyone that we have been involved with has made it more than easy to fit in and the support which we have received, and still receive on a daily basis, has been incredible. One of the main benefits for me is that we have exposure to colleagues from other apprentices right up to director level. This was completely against my expectations.

Despite all my friends going off to university, I knew I wanted to take the route of an apprenticeship. Although I would have been in the lower fees band, I didn't want to get myself into a mountain of debt without the security of a job post-university. I also knew I wanted to go into IT and work my way up from the bottom rather than attempting to get a post-graduate position, as I felt experience was much more valued. With these factors in mind, I discovered Capgemini and thankfully, as they say, the rest is history.

Although I was originally brought in to fulfill a support role on a cloud project, my actual role consists of a much wider range of activities, including testing, pre-sales, marketing and project management components.

Right from the outset I have wanted to pursue a managerial role within the company. This was one of the first things I told my management team, and ever since we had that conversation they have pushed me in the right direction to achieve it. I’m constantly being given new challenges and tasks that are helping guide me towards a role that encompasses Project Management/Engagement Management and I have loved every moment of it. I aspire to progress within the company and, looking forward, my sights are set on achieving a senior role leading to VP and beyond.

I would absolutely recommend an apprenticeship with Capgemini. The awards and accreditation that the GAP programme has say it all. If you are interested in technology and would prefer to take an “earn-while-you-learn” approach, it is the perfect place to apply. As an apprentice, you are really valued by the whole business and the support and experience that comes with it is incredible. You are not just a tick in a box for some quota but rather an asset to a company that invests heavily in you and your future and I couldn't recommend it more.
