Higher Level Apprenticeship

What have been your key achievements since joining Atkins?

My key achievements to date since joining Atkins have primarily been achieving good grades in my BTEC Level 3 in Civil Engineering. I have also managed to move around between offices and projects often which has helped me to network and meet new people. In addition, I also achieved a better grade in this year’s Personal Development Review in comparison to last year’s which hopefully shows signs of improvement!

What attracted you to Atkins?

I was initially attracted to the variety and range of projects that Atkins has been involved in and continues to work on. The diverse range of projects means no one day is the sam in the office, which is great for keeping you interested and motivated!

What other activities have you been involved with?

I have been the organiser for CPD’s (Continuing Professional Development) lunch time presentations to help apprentices, graduates, technicians and engineers progress their engineering knowledge and understanding. I am also an Atkins Professional Apprenticeship Ambassador. This involves engaging on various social media platform such as Twitter to promote the opportunities at Atkins within an apprentice role as well as encouraging young people to consider engineering as a career.

What advice and tips would you give to others for the future?

If you are unsure about the route into Civil Engineering, I would highly recommend applying for the ICE QUEST Scholarship. Try out as many different fields as you can, the more experience you have behind you, the easier you will find a graduate role.
