IT Apprentice Matthew Lampard
I applied for the Unilever IT Apprenticeship because I felt that it was the perfect blend of work and study. I am earning whilst learning, and gaining valuable experience in the workplace. I wanted to join Unilever because it is a prestigious company, with a reputation for being environmentally responsible and looking after its employees.
During my Apprenticeship, I have really enjoyed the opportunities that I have been given to network and socialise. A personal highlight was meeting our CEO, Paul Polman for a Q&A Session held exclusively for apprentices, as well as being able to meet and work with people based across the world, from China to the USA.
The most valuable piece of advice I’ve been given is to push yourself outside of your comfort zone regularly. I’ve been challenged by both my mentors and line manager to regularly place myself in situations where I don’t feel comfortable, and being in these challenging situations has persuaded me that I am capable of anything, if I put my mind to it.
The reality of my apprenticeship role far surpasses the expectations I had before I started the scheme. I have been extensively involved in projects since my first week, and have relished the opportunity I have had to work in a trailblazing team.
For someone considering an Apprenticeship at Unilever, I would say to them, do not be afraid to make mistakes. I have made many mistakes during my time at Unilever, but have learned that making mistakes is the best way to develop and learn.More Experiences
