Improving loans, achieving an internationally-recognised qualification and raising thousands for a national charity - LBG Apprentice Jozie-Anne Smart reflects on her journey with us so far.
I originally moved to Edinburgh to study Chemical Engineering, but I didn’t really like it. So I left, clueless as to what to do, and started work in a call centre for Halifax Mortgages. After a few years, I’d learned everything about mortgages and I wanted a new challenge. The Financial Management Apprenticeship was the perfect opportunity to learn new skills.
I’m working on a new commercial management information tool across Lloyds Banking Group. It will provide a breakdown of different loans on our books all in one place like what type of loan it is, how much is left to pay. It’s huge, it covers thousands of different businesses, both here in the UK and internationally!
No mountain high enough
Recently, I did the Three Peaks Challenge. There were 35 of us from the Finance teams across Edinburgh, London and Bristol. We raised £12,000, which was matched by Lloyds Banking Group, so £24,000 went to Mental Health UK.
The million dollar questions
Everything’s constantly evolving here, people are always looking to innovate, systems are always being improved. If you come into a role and you’re looking at something and you think, ‘Why are they doing it that way?’, people encourage you to challenge it to say ‘Can I try it this way, can I do it my way?’.
