Supply Chain Apprentice Nathan McGee
What is it like to be a GSK apprentice?
I believe being a GSK Supply Chain Apprentice is an absolutely fantastic opportunity. We have been treated on a level playing field as any other employee, and have been trusted to carry out tasks with great complexity & responsibility, very early on in our careers, which highlights the faith that the company has in us as apprentices.
What does your Apprenticeship involve?
My apprenticeship touches on a broad range of areas within supply chain. In supply chain, we work on a rotation system. In my case, I am based in a team called Move Product Shared Services, and I rotate every 3 months to spend time in a new function. So far I have worked in Operations, Compliance, Strategy & Supply Chain Transformation. This gives us a chance to see the end-to-end supply chain, and discover which area we are best suited to & where our talents lie.
What made you apply for the apprenticeship at GSK?
After spending a week with GSK on work experience during my GCSEs, I’d got a feel for the type of company I wanted to start a career with. I saw a great opportunity to work for a global company with a goal of improving the quality of human life.
Did you always want to do this as your job?
At school my favourite and strongest subject was business studies. I learnt about supply chain, but not in much detail, so this apprenticeship has given me a valuable opportunity to build upon what I enjoyed learning about in school.
Would you recommend a GSK apprenticeship to anyone?
I most certainly would recommend a GSK apprenticeship. A GSK apprenticeship has given me the chance to gain qualifications and valuable experience in a subject I have a passion for, and a chance to begin to earn a living. I am currently working towards a degree, learning the theory & being able to apply it to a live environment, and I don’t have any of the student debt that I might have seen if I’d have chosen to go to university.More Experiences
