About NatWest

Who we are and what we do?

NatWest Group is a relationship bank for a digital world. We champion potential; breaking down barriers and building financial confidence so the 19 million people, families and businesses we serve in communities throughout the UK and Ireland can rebuild and thrive. If our customers succeed, so will we.

You may recognise some of our many brands, NatWest Group is the umbrella we all sit under, but this also includes The Royal Bank of Scotland, NatWest, Coutts, Adam & Company, Ulster Bank, Lombard and many more.

We’re diverse and inclusive.

Being inclusive goes right to the core of our culture, and we hire the best people for the position on offer regardless of their gender, race, culture, creed or physical abilities.

Our approach:

  • Disability smart - We're positively addressing the needs of disabled colleagues and candidates, and we’ve set ourselves the goal to be recognised externally as a disability smart organisation through our actions, internal initiatives and external partnerships.
  • Ethnically diverse - It’s important that the diversity of our team reflects the diversity of our customers. That’s why we’ve set ourselves the goal of identifying, developing and appointing at least 14% Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) leaders by 2025.
  • Inclusive culture – We have a number of initiatives in place for families, carers, colleagues returning to work and those joining us after life in the military.
  • Gender balanced - A gender balanced team is vital to our success to make sure everyone has the encouragement, inspiration and opportunity to take their career with us as far as they want to. That's why we're working towards a target of having women in 50% of our top level leadership roles by 2030, with interim targets over the next 10 years.
  • LGBT Innovative - As an inclusive employer, our goal is to deliver a better LGBT colleague and customer experience by continuously challenging the status quo. With insight, education and support we are working towards being an LGBT employer of choice.

Why should I do an apprenticeship? Is it right for me?

An apprenticeship could be the best option if you’d like something:

  • Flexible - you can complete the qualification at your own pace
  • Practical - you’ll learn on the job, in the workplace, gaining hands-on skills and experience
  • Paid - you’ll be paid, plus have many of the same rights and benefits as an employee

This wouldn’t just be the start of a job at NatWest, it would be the start of a great career with us.

What does an apprentice do?

At NatWest we don’t just deal with money, finances and products, we have so many other areas for you to explore. As an apprentice you could be working in technology, digital and data, customer services, relationship management or business administration. Some of our apprenticeships can provide you with the opportunity to deal with customers directly and others involve supporting colleagues who work with customers.

Our apprentices have the responsibility to control the way they work to ensure they’re getting the best out of their learning, education and their daily job.

Our apprenticeships offer different types of learning:

  • On-the-job training - Where you’ll learn about the job you have been hired for through training and supervision by your line manager and team colleagues
  • Off-the-job training - You’ll spend 20% of your time training off-the-job. That training might be online, at your place of work, or at a university or college. You might also need to take additional qualifications in English and Maths
  • Qualifications - You can achieve a qualification, and for some even a full Bachelor's or Master's degree as part of your apprenticeship.

What you’ll get out of one of our apprenticeships.

As an apprentice you’ll receive plenty of support from your manager, the apprenticeship learning provider, and your colleagues to fulfil your day-to-day duties whilst learning at the same time. You’ll be fully trained in your specified area, with exposure to a large network of colleagues and external partners who’ll encourage your career growth.
