About DSTL

The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) ensures that our innovative science and technology contribute to the defence and security of the UK. We provide the UK Government with specialist science and technology research, advice and analysis – much of which is operationally critical with the potential to save many lives.

Like creating digital honeypots that replicate petrol pump systems to discover hackers’ methods, our ideas and solutions can come from anywhere. In fact, we use our imaginations to harness existing knowledge in new and unexpected ways.

At DSTL, you’ll find a workforce of respected scientists and professionals who specialise in many different Science, Technology and related disciplines. Our team also collaborate on research and projects with some of the most talented professionals and academics in the world. You will receive a combination of on the job and formal training throughout your apprenticeship, with a chance of working on some really exciting projects!

As a member of the 5% club, we’re committed to ensuring that 5% of our workforce are apprentices, graduates or sponsored students on a structured programme over the next five years.

DSTL operates a broad total reward and recognition package including 25 days annual leave, flexible working and an on-site gym.

You’ll typically go through the following steps:

  • Apply online & submit a CV
  • Testing day and a chance to meet some of the current apprentices at Dstl
  • Face to face interview
