  • my job title is gas distribution maintenance E&I technician, my jobs tasks include maintence tasks such as calibrating instruments, electrical testing and other maintenace tasks

  • ive learnt new hand skills, electrical wiring skills and many other skills to do with my job role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • it is a brilliant apprenticeship with lots of opportunities for the future, everyone is really friendly and the quality of training is very high!

  • 4. How valued do you feel by National Grid?
  • from the start my manager showed he appreacited us and that he will help me through my apprenticeship, meeting the whole team for the first time i thought would be hard to intergrate at first but they were all really friendly and welcoming

  • everything is well organised but you are expected to make some arrangements yourself

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Trainers are always around in the day to talk to and they will support you, plus your training manager is always at the end of the phone for you

  • mentors and line managers are always in contact checking everythings running smoothly and if we have any problems.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Its an excellent package for an apprenticeship

  • there are company events set up like outward bounds, sailing competitions etc.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • because its an amazing opportunity for anyone to get into engineering, all the staff are friendly and will always support you


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to National Grid?
  • be yourself in the interview process, research the company before hand and relax!
