Higher Engineering Apprentice, 3 days a week at college, 2 on site working for the first year, then a ratio of 1 day at college, to 4 on site after this date. You have rotations, which means take on a role as part of a team on their project for a while before changing to another part of the company. Daily interactions include talking to other staff internally, and organising volunteering events with other schools and companies externally.
You take part in many training courses whilst on the apprenticeship, such as I2I, as well as undertaking an NVQ in Practical Engineering Operations, and A Bachelors Degree in Electronical Engineering, earning IET Certified Engineers Status. We also build on most personal and proffesional skills as we work with a vast diversity of people
I enjoy both the work and the training, the team selected i wouldnt have orignally thought would work well together, but we do. The company is a good one to work for, as it is international with many branches. So far it has met my expectations and has been enjoyable.
The company makes you feel valued, from the short time I have been here. The managers take on your ideas, if they are good quality, and it appears they give you the recognistion, more so as you complete the apprenticeship sections. You have a lot of involvement with tasks and projects and are valued in them
The program is well structured and layed out, however you need to take control of the apprenticeship and gain what you want to get out of it. you have monthly "buddy meetings" in which you talk to an apprentice from the second year who you've been placed with. The college where the NCQ and degree is completed isn't the best, but it helps us to tackle the problems that arise from this.
You recieve the support you need from the collgege, but this is about all it extends to
The employer gives you more support than you need, they provide you with anytrhing you require to complete tasks, but can also point you to other employees who will be able to aid any issues
My salary covers most costs that i have to pay, such as keep, food etc. And there is plenty left over for personal spending
There are many oppertunites outside of work, including volunteering, sports clubs and social clubs/events. you get invites to lectures and discounts to places such as gyms.
Yes
It is a good company to work for, and so far it has been enjoyable
Complete all the forms fully, and accurately, just be yourselves at interviews and the assesment days, as it will show if you havent been fairly soon into the course.
