  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently i am working in Product and Supplier change within Personal and Business banking. I work closely with the the banks credit card suppliers ensuring any developments and projects will have a smooth implimentation and no affect on the customer. We deal with all developments from changes on our systems TSYS or new products being brought out.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have build and developed on organisation to ensure i keep on track of the changes and communication to keep stakeholders aware of project status. In terms of new skills i have built up a wide knowledge on various systems we use in RBS and also broadened my knowledge on the end to end credit card journey.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my programme. I feel that it has given me the oppurtunity to move around and see different areas of the bank, including commercial, product and operations which has not only helped me broaden my knowledge but built new skills.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by NatWest?
  • I feel very valued by RBS, our department reward members of staff every week and month so if you have completed something well, you will get ovations for this. All the members of staff are friendly and supportive and the senior managers also work closely with you to help you achieve goals.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Initially the programme had no structure, we was the first year and so the managers and training providers had little information about what the next 2 years would entail. However they was really quick in answering queries we had and sorted all the workbooks we would need to complete. My programme was broken down into 10 workbooks and 4 exams and i also attended 8 training courses.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • BPP have been really helpful over the course of the programme, initially due to the uncertanity of the programme we had lots of questions and so they were very quick on responding to these. They also prepped you for exams and kept you updated on your progress which has been good.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • EVen through i have moved around several teams within RBS, every time my line manager has been really supportive, ensuring i have everything i need and can complete my workbooks in time. They havent made me feel like i was uncapable of tasks and have given me the same work as other members in the team with lots of training.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • After reading online about the minimum wage for apprentices being around the £2.60 mark, i was concerned with the kind of money i would get due to my commitments outside of work. However RBS pay their apprentices very well and we also get Benefit rewards funding which we can take in cash or use towards other things such as health/dental care.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I am the community involvement representative for my area of the bank, so it is my responsibility to organise these events. As a result i get invoved in lots of activites and events for charities and teamwork building days.

  • 9. Would you recommend NatWest to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • You get on the job training and are paid to learn. The bank has been taking on graduates for years and so they have a well established programe.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • Sort the initial part of the programme out as many were unsure of what they would be doing. Give apprentices a chance to rotate if they would like as i only got this oppurtunity from internal restructures.
