  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am currently working as a mechanical/electrical technician and my job role is to provide drawings using software such as CAD and Revit. I create drawings and make amends to mechanical/electrical containment that could be clashing. Revit enables the use of 3D viewing to allow for more intermediate detailing and coordination.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Arup?
  • I feel the company offers me much support and are always friendly towards me, I couldn't honestly ask for a better company to work for, had no issues since I started and I feel that Arup strives towards keeping a friendly community and not treating anybody different.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • College is 1 day a week and on average you are asked to complete 3-4 assignments a month, on top of this you are also required to complete a NVQ portfolio. These two combined make it very hard to juggle your social life with college work and can get a little hectic and hard to get on top of. Apart from this the programme feels well structured generally.

  • I am satisfied with the current wage I am on but the near future my living costs will increase when I move out of home. At the moment while living with my parents I am trying to save up as much as possible for when I move out.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel working with Arup is a great opportunity to acquire new skills and meet new people along the way. They are great with supplying training and a friendly company to work with.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arup?
  • Get involved with CAD and familiarize yourself with the software, if applying for the same apprenticeship role as me, it will be helpful to know a little about the software you will be using when you start. Prepare yourself for questions likely to be asked and have a brief overview on how you are going to answer them questions.
