Apprentice Review

During this apprentice we get the opportunity to experience every sector of the market gaining a greater understanding. On a day to day basis this involves general admin, the creation on invoice and endorsements, client meetings, issuing renewals and the running of claim loss reports.

Since starting the apprenticeship I have passed two CII exams, enabling me to gain a qualification. Whilst training for these exams we had revision lessons which gave us greater confidence in the work place and in preparation for our exam. The internal training courses have been a great help as my confidence has increased greatly, in regards of public speaking and meeting this people/clients. Since working here I have developed many skills such as, public speaking, meeting with clients, time planning/organization and presentation.

I have enjoyed the work I have been given however in the first half of my placement work was limited, so at times there was nothing to do. However, once I moved to a different team the work I was given enabled me to challenge myself and I felt like I was an actual member of the team, as I was given a specific role. The team I work with now are very friendly which, creates a very welcoming work environment. The company I work for now is a very relaxed environment and everyone is very welcoming and friendly, which enables us to have a laugh at times. Since moving to my underwriting placement I have found that the staff are much friendlier then at my broking placement. I feel that it is much more enjoyable at this placement as there are a lot of team outings which enable the team to bound.

I feel like we are vey valued at Lloyd's of London, as they organize numerous events for us and arrange our broking and Underwriting placements.

I feel like the program is structured very well as we get to experience a lot of the market. However, I feel like we should have more say in the classes of business we'd like to do.

The support that we are given by our tutor is immense. Our tutor allows us to contact her day or night with any queries we have and she gives us a great amount of support if we need it. If we have any problems we are able to email or call our tutor and she will give us any advice she has which is best suited to the situation. She also gives us support and help when leading up to our exams and with the help of our coursework.

We receive a vast arrange of support from our employer. They will give us revision days off and arrange revision sessions leading up to our exam.

Our salary is very good for our age. However with my travel costs, my salary wouldn't be livable on as I'm only left with £750 each month, this would then need to cover living costs, daily costs and social costs let alone taking into account location. If I was to live on my own my currently salary would just cover my travel and rent for a house.

Numerous events and activities take place inside and outside of work which enable us to network with different markets in the industry. There are many sporting clubs available in the industry such as football, rugby etc which any member of the company can join.

I feel that working at Lloyd's of London is an experience you'll never get. Working at Lloyd's of London enables you to see many different sections of the market, from broking to underwriting to claims and the corporation. The Lloyd's Apprenticeship scheme really gives you a greater understanding of each of the different section and classes of business, and also enables you to gain valuable experience in each one.

During the application process and assessment days just be yourself and remain confident. This will show in your presentation and will show how approachable you are. When applying make sure you know why you should be employed by them as this question comes up many times and it allows you to differentiate yourself from the other candidates.
