1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am a Building information modeller who will manipulate 3d design software as specified by engineers. On a daily basis I will converse with engineers to make sure their design is correctly put into a three dimensional model as well as making sure that is doesn't clash with any other systems.

Some projects can be more demanding than others with engineers wanting a greater deal of detail within their designs

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have really developed my team work skills and being able to negotiate with people to complete aspects of projects to the right standard. I have learnt a great deal about the industry I work in as well as learning new software which will help me with future projects.

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

My programme offers a great deal to help expand your skills and meet many people from various disciplines and specialities. One of the greatest things about this apprenticeship is the amount of knowledge you gain from colleagues. There will be days where you can get stressed from looming deadlines and some projects may not be as interesting as others.

4. How valued do you feel by Mott MacDonald?

There are some times where I feel being an apprentice limits my interaction and involvement with some projects

5. How well organised/structured is your programme?

On the education part of my apprenticeship I feel a major lack of organisation on the part of the college and structure of the course: I feel many of the assignments I get given are not relevant so what I am carrying out at work. This is something I have discussed with my college friends and they feel the same.

The organisation of my apprenticeship on the company side is very good. I feel that I am given challenges to test myself in the industry and I feel I am visibly improving my skills.

6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?

I feel quite let down by the support I get from college as I feel what I am being taught is quite irrelevant and feel a lack of support from some teachers.

6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?

I feel very supported by the company I am working for. The people I work with as very pleasant and are always willing to help if I have any problems.

7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?

As an apprentice having my education paid for I cant complain about my pack package.

8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?

yes the skills I am learning as well as the new software opens up many doors for me to find projects to work on.

9. Would you recommend Mott MacDonald to a friend?

9b. Why?

The depth of skills you learn is amazing this coupled with the experience you gain from highly skilled individuals all under a large company is great. There are only advantages to schemes like these. You get paid and have your education paid for leaving you only with positives.

10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mott MacDonald?

be willing to work hard to prove yourself as well as putting in extra hours of work to get things done. It will all be worth it.
