  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am an Engineering Apprentice with Mott MacDonald, I frequently get to do design work and calculations for most small power and lighting within my team (Electrical).

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills and am gaining a BTEC Level 3 and an NVQ during the apprenticeship whilst gaining valuable experience that University students can't.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The team and company are welcoming and are always around if I need any help with work or college. I enjoy working where I am and intend to stay here after my apprenticeship.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Mott MacDonald?
  • I am a valuable part of the team with different experiences and skill sets to the engineers. Due to not having a specific area of knowledge I can give an outside view on things which can be very useful.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is structured well and I feel that the organisation is good but slow to start with. I think that is just the workload at the time of my arrival and not accustomed to no one wanting to share work.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The course provider provides sufficient support for the course but that's it. Anything else is supplied by colleagues at work or self study.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a large amount of support from the company and they put the employee first which makes you feel welcome and wanted in the working environment.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The Salary covers all costs but if I was living alone it would be incredibly tight and a higher wage package could be helpful at times.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • The company run many social events from sports to paintballing to theatre tickets. The company also support STEMNet and have employee's become ambassadors and fund days out to encourage the younger generation towards engineering in the future.

  • 9. Would you recommend Mott MacDonald to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I am having a great time and there are so many opportunities for me to progress in terms of personality and work wise too. The company offer support all the time and wherever it's needed. They also help to organise and fund things that you put forward, for example paintballing or a new sports club.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mott MacDonald?
  • Make sure you know who your applying to, prepare what your going to say but don't rehearse it so much that you sound like a tape. Be interactive, the interviewer will like to see you asking them questions maximum of 3 because it shows your interested and have thought about what you're going to do. Make the questions specific to the job and company your applying for.
