  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I had a 5 day work experience at Hogan Lovells and was involved in several different activities at the firm. I shadowed two first seat trainees: one at capital markets and the other in financial institutions. In order to further our knowledge on the firm, different presentations were organised each day covering the several different co operations within the firm and what their tasks involve.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I was able to enhance my presentation skills as each student was required to give a presentation in groups on the final day. Henceforth, I was also learnt how to perfect my note taking skills. As mentioned in the previous question, several different presentations and talks took place and being able to jot down information effectively and as quickly as possible was important. Finally, I managed to improve my team work skills. As we were arranged in groups of 4-5 it was important to establish a common ground which everyone could agree with in order to ensure everyone's point of view was expressed fairly and appropriately.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the programme. Being able to experience life as a lawyer at one of the top law firms in the word is a chance seldom seen. Therefore, as I gained a close insight into what is required both academically and personally in order to excel my decision to study law at university is founded upon secure knowledge of what will be expected of me.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Hogan Lovells?
  • I enjoyed the atmosphere at Hogan Lovells. Initially, I assumed the firm would be rather chaotic considering how many things it has to manage. However, this turned out to be quite the opposite as Hogan Lovells valued each and every individual taking their work experience at their firm be ensuring everyone was able to shadow current trainees at the firm. I also had the opportunity to involve myself in the work of a first seat trainee in financial institutions by going over Barclays' Terms and Conditions and highlighting rules which didn't appear fair for the costumer.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Each day I spent at Hogan Lovells was well structured. Throughout the five days, the members at the firm ensured to cover as much ground as possible while still making sure the day was interactive by organising problem solving activities. Henceforth, outdoor visits were also organised where we had the chance to visit the Vodafone headquarters.

  • The recruitment team at Hogan Lovells was exceptional. I was welcomed in a friendly manner and would have had no problem approaching the team should there have been any issues. They ensured everyone was located at the right place at the right time and maintained a positive attitude throughout the duration of the week. Needless to mention we were all encouraged to indulge in as many confectionaries as were provided.

  • 9b. Why?
  • Hogan Lovells is an excellent place of you want to gain an insight into the life of the lawyer while still having the opportunity to be interactive with them and raise any issues or concerns. There is a friendly vibe and a positive attitude to work, which is seldom amongst big cooperations.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Hogan Lovells?
  • It is important to ensure you truly feel passionate about the firm.
