  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is in operations management within the Public Sector business unit within CGI. My daily tasks involve admin duties. I have day to day interactions with senior members of staff, an opportunity that I relish. I have no external interactions. I have a lot of high responsibilities in regards to reporting to senior members of the team. A lot of my work is confidential, so I cannot talk to much about it.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The CGI side to the programme is extremely well organised, the induction week was run very smoothly and was a very enjoyable experience. Support is always on hand whenever I need assistance and the buddy system and people management system is an extremely positive aspect to the programme. However, the university side to the programme is not organised at all, with deadlines constantly being changed and at times, lecturers not knowing what to teach. I know that this is not CGIs fault, which is why I have rated this a 7.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The university offer as much support as they can however they are not very useful with being clear about deadlines and assessment tasks, with tasks being changed on a regular basis without any communication. If the university improved their channels of communication, I would rate this higher.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I am allowed to work from home, which is extremely beneficial to me as I live a long distance from my base office. The company cover the cost of transport when I need to work at another office which isnt my base office though, which is helpful. There are a lot of benefits that CGI offer, which I have taken full advantage of such as the share purchase plan and pension plan.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are a lot of events outside of CGI, thanks to the social club. I am part of the work football team and play 5 aside with my peers on a regular basis. There a lot of opportunities to take advantage of should I wish to do so in the future.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CGI?
  • The application process is lenghty but it is worth it as you can learn a lot about yourself and areas in which you need to develop. Its always good to get experience of the application process and interviews for the future. The assessment day was very beneficial as it gave me an insight to the company in its day to day working process, so make sure you take every thing in and ask as many questions as possible. its always good to look interested. most importantly, be yourself!
