1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Materials Engineer. Receiving requests from customers within JLR asking for materials to be tested. After testing the material to a specified standard, tie up with the customer in a meeting to discuss results and options to take the material for use on future vehicles.

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I've completed various training courses all directed towards materials and new material technology. I've also learnt how to use all laboratory equipment that would be used at any major vehicle manufacturer.

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy working within the team in my department as well as working with other apprentices such as myself. The apprentices in the business all help one another with any issues and resembles a family feel. As the business is moving very quickly into positive directions, I find it very exciting to be there along the way. I am witnessing all of our new vehicle programmes being released knowing that I have played my part in the development.

4. How valued do you feel by Jaguar Land Rover?

I feel very appreciated by everyone within the business and outside the business. My manager is always helpful and encourages development even though he is incredibly busy. Whenever I travel to conferences or courses etc. everyone I speak to is really impressed by the apprenticeship scheme after I have spoken about it.

My manager and higher level employees all support me and are very helpful at every opportunity they get.

7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?

The location is relatively expensive, however I am paid more than enough to live a life that I enjoy.

8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?

There are many company events and conferences aswell as voluntary work and sports clubs. Me and a few other apprentices currently play football in a 5 a a side league.

9. Would you recommend Jaguar Land Rover to a friend?

9b. Why?

Because the qualifications gained are essential in a professional career and they are all paid for you. The working experience at JLR is utterly fantastic and incredibly exciting. The pay package is the most generous in the industry allowing me to live a life that most people my age cannot.

10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Jaguar Land Rover?

Regarding interviews, have examples of your experiences fresh in your mind. So that when they ask you a question such as 'Have you ever had to deal with an outsider within a team?', you will be able to relate to an experience to answer the question. I believe that during the assessment stages as well as when working here, be enthusiastic not frightened. Enthusiasm definitely gets you places at this company as people can feel your positivity.
