Control Engineer Review

Assisting maintenance and controls engineers around the shop floor. Aiding and taking notes during faults. Helping fix components or reassemble machinery for use on the production line or elsewhere. Each day is different, which is great.

I've learnt a lot of new skills. I've been taught how to weld, how to safely wire, how to read wiring diagrams, how to use various tools such as an angle grinder, a grinding wheel, a pillar drill, a multi-meter etc.

I really enjoy the programme. It offers such a vast range of opportunities, experiences, information and life lessons from some brilliant engineers. Most people are more than willing to give you their time and teach you what they know. At times it can be tough and very daunting being thrown into such an intense environment at such a young age but you soon settle in and find your feet.

I do feel valued. As they say "We are the future" and there is definitely recognition given for outstanding performances.

Relatively well. There have been times when plans or criteria's have been vague/wrong/last minute or just not known at all which has been frustrating. However I do realise the higher apprenticeship is a very new course and JLR are still finding their feet. That said, organisation has definitely improved and become a lot more stable since the start of the apprenticeship.

Enough. He is always there to discuss issues and raise any burning questions with. The fact that I haven't personally had many doesn't retract from my training providers support. We have relatively regular meetings to catch up since our last encounter and check everything is going well.

They provide many opportunities to raise any issues, and provide dedicated staff to attend to apprentices. No problems with support.

Pretty well! I am able to comfortably live away from home and run a car whilst having enough disposable income to be happy.

Do your research on the company, work hard at school, don't expect it to be easy and take every opportunity given to you.
