  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work as a Programme Supplier Technical Assistance Engineer. I work with suppliers to ensure that they are prepared for forthcoming car launches: this means ensuring that they can produce the right components with the correct level of quality - and that they are able to produce the right quantity. I spend my working day in communication with the suppliers, attending meetings regarding the progress of the car, and reporting back on the status of those suppliers that I care for.

  • I am currently in the second year of my foundation degree, and currently studying materials, operations management, and working on a project. I have previously studied mathematics, business, manufacturing and logistics amongst other subjects. Within my work setting I have had courses on a number of internal software packages, and also on our own processes. It has been especially important for me to develop my communication skills.

  • My employer, Jaguar Land Rover, is extremely supportive. It has been made clear that assistance in all areas, from eduction to personal problems, is available through the standard channels; the method of accessing this support, such as through Employee Learning or Occupational Health, was explained during the induction. My industrial training manager and my manager are both available should I require support.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I am very lucky: I live only 1 hour away from my place of work. My salary is plenty to cover the commute as well as rent to my parents and I am able to build up savings towards a house deposit; the salary and package are very suitable for saving and planning for my future.
