1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Standards and Controls Engineer Apprentice Full time college in the first year with some plant placements during plant i have been given simple tasks but tasks that teach me a lot of key skills in the factory like finding my way around and understanding how the robots work. During my time at college i have regular interactions with colleges and also with my WBLM. And also at plant i have interaction with sub contractors from different companies. During college we have been tasked with the project of installing a safety cube into the workshop.

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I am working towards a foundation degree at college and also foundation competencies in practical activities. I have also been on Robot training courses at plant. And many health and safety inductions. The incorporation of a behavioral review has made it easier to develop personal skills like how to approach or talk to people and also how to problem solve. To name a few some of the subjects i am studying are: Thermofluids, Electronic Principles, Maths.

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship and find the work challenging but interesting. There is a good work ethic around the whole apprenticeship and the teams i work with are always helpful and interested in your problems.

4. How valued do you feel by Jaguar Land Rover?

I feel valued here as an individual and my manager is always interested in how i am and willing to help if i am struggling with any particular problems. I have not had any internal recognition formally but i have only been here 6 months so that is unlikely but the team i work with are very appreciative.

5. How well organised/structured is your programme?

The induction was very good for the apprenticeship and lasted a week where we spent the week on various courses about health and safety and also about dignity and diversity and how we should behave. The support we receive from our WBLM is good and makes you feel there is someone to turn to if you have a problem although because the program is large sometimes small issues can be overlooked and a lesson your in is not required or something similar.

6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?

There is always tutorials running and tutors are very helpful if you are struggling to complete work on time or are finding the work too hard and will help you or point you in the right direction.

6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?

I feel there is a lot of support we have a dedicated WBLM who is always there to talk to and give guidance or advice along with the behavioral review that helps to guide you in the right direction and help you with attitude and behaviours

7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?

My Salary meets my cost well as i had to move up to where i will be working my salary allows me to live comfortably as well as saving some money to buy a house in the future however it would make my life easier if the salary was higher.

8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?

There are loads of opportunities due to working for such a large company. Locally there are many JLR deals that you can use and also there are days where you can choose to partake in encouraging younger people to apply for the apprenticeship program.

9. Would you recommend Jaguar Land Rover to a friend?

9b. Why?

JLR has been very helpful with any problem that you face and also teaches you main disciplines in the engineering sector and gives you a good set up for life. As well as educating you and providing you with a degree all while they pay you

10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Jaguar Land Rover?

Be honest when applying to the program, but have the drive and inspiration to be committed to the program and don't just scrape through doing the minimum. During the assessment centre stay calm and trust your instincts.
