  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Windows Server Delivery Team. Designing, Building, Testing and supporting 'Go Live' IT Systems. Internal customers but systems built would be used and benefit external customers. Project involved with, Global Banking Markets, Run the Bank, Change the Bank and Retail. Role varies depending on a projects stage and progress. Lots of meetings to give updates and track progress.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The work I do and the role I have learnt, has provided me with a extremely good grounding for a career in IT Systems delivery and leading onto Project management in the near future. I look forward to working and staying at HSBC for a long duration of my career, as this company looks after its staff amazingly and the perks and benefits actually support and help you out. I really enjoyed my apprenticeship and would recommend this apprenticeship scheme to anyone looking for a career in IT.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by HSBC?
  • I am a fully valued member of the team, were I support all projects and work packages within my function. I constantly receive feedback from my line manager and other colleagues providing myself with praise and areas of improvement.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Induction was well structured and provided a insight into what the company does and how each of the business operates. Training was on-going throughout the Apprenticeship, with fortnightly day release training sessions and course work to complete and meet the courses criteria. We had our own team buddy, that supported us in own day role and acted as a mentor in our knowledge and career development. in total the programme was organised at the start, slipped of path a little at the midway point and then geared near the end where the support and help was amazing to achieve the certification and rewards.

  • They were extremely helpful in supporting me with my career development and increasing my knowledge throughout the scheme.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • They were extremely helpful in supporting me with my career development and increasing my knowledge throughout the scheme. The attitude the bank had to your own personal development was amazing, supporting myself with funding external training courses covering all costs. My mentor was very supportive as he was very approachable and knowledgeable in the teams processes and IT infrastructure.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I was and still am being paid extremely well for a trainee apprenticeship role were I could and can live a comfortable life covering all my bills and out going costs. With the Apprenticeship finished I am now looking to progress into my next role and have a pay review to reflect my experience and knowledge.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes many events run by the bank outside of work, sports clubs and tournaments, social events allowing networking, fundraising and charity work. I joined a football team that we formed with all the apprentices and won our first league title this year in our second season.

  • Yes

  • Amazing Apprenticeship, paid extremely well for a training role. Foot into the door for such a massive and global brand, were your career can develop to any area you wish with the support of the bank.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HSBC?
  • Interview and application process can be a little long, so stick with it and the benefits are amazing! Learn the core values and how HSBC functions before turning up to any interviews or assessment days. Just apply you won't regret it if you are looking for a amazing career in IT.
