On a day to day basis, no day runs the same. Daily tasks include serving customers at the counter, keeping the shop tidy and stocked, dealing with customers within the yard, arranging deliveries, stock and product checking. Answering phones and dealing with customers over phone and by email i.e quotes or contacting suppliers.
I have learnt a number of different skills while doing my apprenticeship. I have learnt about manually handling, banks-man training and first aid course. I will also be learning how to operate a forklift. I have also been able to boost my confidence during work, and also how to deal with different customers.
I enjoy many different things about my apprenticeship, I enjoy working with the apprenticeship team as they offer me any support that I may need and have set out clear instructions on how to complete the work needed. I also enjoy the company culture around apprenticeships, everyone is there to help if needed and no one turns away when they are asked. I didn't know what to expect when starting my apprenticeships but it has definitely met them.
The programme is well structured and organised, they set out cleat introductions when starting and told us what is expected of us and how to access any help or information we may need. They are also well organised with the training and support, we have monthly webinars to go over new areas of the course and also have weekly support sessions. The tasks that we need to complete are set out clearly so we can see exactly what we need to do
There is a lot of different people within the business who support me during my apprenticeship. I get a lot of support from the members of staff in my branch especially the Assistant branch manager. I also get a lot of support from my apprenticeship mentor, she is able to help me with any issues or concerns that I have regarding course work or deadlines. However everyone within the company is happy to support me in any way needed.
My apprenticeship coach is always happy to help with any problem I may have, whether it is an issue regarding my course work or any issues I may be having within work. There is also a wide range of people who is also their to help with any issues, as we have a strong youth mentoring network.
We are able to implement the different topics that we learn throughout the module into the working day. We have different types of modules which have many different tasks within them, the two types of modules are, customer; this includes the best ways to serve customers, how to deal with the different types of customers and how we we use the system to process customer orders. The second type is product modules, this allows us to increase our product knowledge which help us when dealing with customer and suppliers.
From my experience within the company there is occasionally social activities for members of the company, however being a remote branch in Scotland a lot of these activities are in England, so there it is too far to travel for just a day activity however it would be good to get involved in something one day.
Yes
I would recommend his apprenticeship to a friend or family member as I believe it is such a great way to learn while also working, the coaches give endless support and backing me the whole way through the course as they want me to succeed and get the best result possible. I would also recommend this apprenticeship as everyone within the company has shown me so much support towards it and made this a great place to learn.
My honest advice to anyone looking to join Travis Perkins would be to always be yourself, don't be scared to ask anyone for help no matter how silly the question seems. Always say yes to opportunities that arise. If you work hard you will get rewarded and always try you best and don't be scared to make mistakes.
