  • To maintain and service substation equipment and to learn about the equipment in depth.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have learned lots of engineering principles and about the electricity grid. I have developed many existing skill with my maths and mechanical knowledge. But, my IT skills have improved a great deal.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed it very much so far. Its a great work life balance usually. The culture at Grid is great and you feel generally well cared for.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • There has been a few alterations to the content but overall it is good. It is very my learner led and what you put in is what you get out. Times when we are 'on site' it is up to us to get involved with planned work.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • It is well but very much up to you to manage issues and ask for help Usually people are helpful and will get back to try resolve issues.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • They are supportive and try there best to get you to the standard that is required to pass.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Mostly i would agree that it gets me to a standard to be able to do basic maintenance. But I think the real learning begins at the end of the programme.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes they are but it up to individuals to get involved and sign up. They are spread broadly across the UK. But in each individual teams they are less to do. At the academy there is currently improvements made to have more activities where people are most likely to use.

  • Yes

  • It a great working environment and it is a good company.

  • Be clued up about the company ethos and culture. Find out about current project and the industry.
