  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On the job learning consists of being part of a new department every 4-6 months to help me gain an appreciation of what each department does. The university side consists of a 2 year course at Aston university. There is also training provided my National Grid in Eakring where we learn how the industry works and how to engage with stakeholders.

  • Yes. This apprenticeship has really helped me to get an appreciation towards the electrical industry and how they manage to handle unforeseen events. I also feel that this apprenticeship has further pushed me out my comfort zone as i am required to step up and for fill public speaking roles at careers events.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is extremely structured as we have a master plan that is updated by the new talent team. If we have external training, on job training and university it is all scheduled in on there. The induction was amazing as it covered everything we needed to know and there were no questions left to ask

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I am enjoying the lectures at Aston, however the lecturers are not from the same background as us. Also the university doesn't provide past exam papers for us to use. The quality of training provided by National Grid is amazing as they provide training courses for the trainers, and the trainers are specialists in their field of work.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • While i am still on the apprenticeship i feel that i am being exposed to more area of the industry and this is helping widen my knowledge about not only my job role but the possibility's that are available across the industry. Most things i have learned at university are able to be applied in some way to the workplace
