Managing a team of 3, overseeing the running of the tool hire department, dealing with customers over the phone, face to face and by email. Managing the deliveries, collections and servicing of equipment. Controlling our stock profile and customer pricing. Providing my team with tasks, training and any support required to do their jobs.
I have learnt a lot more about managing my time. I have gained new skills in managing my team. I now know what my strong points are and the areas in which i need to make improvements. I have also learnt how to have a little more confidence in myself.
It was great to build a network with a group of colleagues in the same position as myself or with knowledge that I didn't have. I enjoyed working with the LEAP apprenticeship team who helped me to understand my focus areas. It is great to be able to learn on the job.
The structure is great. Everything is set out from the start with an overview of each module, when each module is going to start and all of the deadlines that you have to meet. Full support is given the whole way through with regular webinars and one to one reviews.
As much support as I needed. My line manager was always on hand to help me with anything i needed like sourcing certain documents. The Travis Perkins apprenticeship team are there for you whenever you need them and the company as a whole is very supportive of apprenticeships and personal development.
I had regular meetings with my apprenticeship coach throughout the apprenticeship and even more so coming up to my end point assessment. I was given constant reassurance and every piece of information that could give me to help me prepare for the assessment including mock questions and subjects to focus on.
It gave me a structure to learn from and taught me how to manage my time effectively which will massively help me going forward. Having a qualification will also open further opportunities to progress within my role and the overall group. It has also given me the option of enrolling on higher level courses.
We try to organise regular social activities for the branch colleagues as team bonding and a chance to celebrate our successes. There are regular regional meetings and an annual national conference for the managers. The business also organises customer social activities to help boost our colleague and customer relationships.
Yes
It is a great company to work for. They have a lot of family values they like to uphold making their staff their main priority. Colleague and public safety is a key feature within the group. They offer many learning and development opportunities as well as flexible hours for those with families.
Have a look in to the benefits of working for the group. Ask them about their apprenticeship schemes and how they support development. Make sure you are aware of the support colleagues are given with personal issues and family issues. Remember that you are not just applying for a job, you are applying to be a part of a family.
