  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a Software Engineer assigned to Quality Assurance, my role involves developing and performing manual and automated testing on changes made by developers to ensure the changes meet the acceptance criteria set out by the team leads, as well as ensuring they are bug free and do not break any existing functionality.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • As part of my degree and job experience, I have begun developing skills in the Java language, which I did not have previously. Furthermore, my role has developed my understanding of testing, as well as its importance in ensuring the code produced by teams is of a high quality, as low quality code can have severe knock on effects on the relationship between us and the client.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am enjoying my programme quite a lot, as my role meets my job satisfaction needs, while the degree side meets my educational needs by providing me with a degree without any financial stress or student loans. The company culture is open and supportive, so I have felt welcome since I joined,

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Communication between my employer and the university could be better, as I have sometimes been in situations where I have had to communicate what is going on with my degree to my employers, despite me being told previously that this information had already been communicated. Despite this, structure on both the university and employment side is strong, and does not lead to any unnecessary confusion.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have found myself on a very supportive team. When I first joined, I was invited to shadow other testers on my team to pick up the general ways of working in my department. My managers have been consistently supportive, and I have always been sure of where to raise questions or concerns should I have any.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have received lots of positive support from tutors and advisors so far. I have 2 "delivery managers" for this part of my course. One who deals with my on the job training, and another who assists me in producing high quality work to achieve the best possible grade. They have both been very open and willing to answer any questions I have.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The extra knowledge I am gaining from my qualification has helped me build up my confidence and competence in the workplace faster, as I am gaining knowledge I would otherwise not have, which I can apply in my work. As this continues, I expect my workplace performance to improve further.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • My workplace frequently hosts extra-curricular activities for us to take part in. These are usually advertised in emails, or via a Teams channel. These can involve community support work, social events, or wider company events that involve people from a variety of departments. My department also hosts similar events on a smaller scale.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Capgemini is a very open and welcoming workplace, and there is a genuine commitment to ensuring every employee has the training and resources necessary to do their best work. Everyone I have encountered is friendly, welcoming and open to providing support if you need it, which helps to promote a sense of community between co-workers.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
  • Ensure you "sell yourself" the best you can. Capgemini cares more about you as an individual over the grades you have achieved, although good grades always help. The application process is fairly easy, and any vacancies can be found on their website. The onboarding process is fairly long and will require you to send off lots of information for your security clearance, so try to reply to those requests as quickly as possible to ensure your clearance is not delayed.
