  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Assisting and learning to perform maintenance, repairs and installations of medical x-ray systems.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I’ve quickly developed competence with ‘hands on’ skills for practical work, along with constantly building theoretical knowledge for the systems I’m learning to work on. Moreover, I’ve developed social skills which enable me to work better with customers on a day to day basis.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Each day offers a different task, usually with different colleagues and often in different locations across the North West - this is definitely a big reason why I look forward to each day!

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Across the 4 years the apprenticeship spans, my training provider has laid out a clear pathway for how I will complete the apprenticeship. Support is offered constantly in order to help me achieve this.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I am lucky enough to have several training officers and managers that are happy to help and support me with any issues or queries I have. This could vary from work life problems, college and qualification issues, to welfare.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • STEGTA has offered me unconditional support with completing my qualifications. I have built personal relationships with the training officers which have all given me huge support in all aspects. We have structured and regular meetings which is really beneficial to make sure I am working towards my goals.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualifications I’ve obtained through STEGTA have provided me with an array of practical skills and theoretical knowledge which have transferred to my day to day work - giving me more confidence to take on jobs and continue my learning.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The company has made it clear how important social events are for work as it helps build a solid team. We have frequent get-togethers which definitely boosts how well the team works.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • There is a clear pathway for progression, which for me is the most important thing as an apprentice.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens Healthineers?
  • To just make sure you apply with an open mind-set and are ambitious with what you want to achieve! This apprenticeship offers great opportunities so they will want applicants who are willing and driven.
