  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Day to day I am responsible for checking minor issues on our ticketing system. I also travel to sites to preform more complex fixes and maintenance on devices that preform a range of tasks such as blood tests. These are coupled with other work checking in with different groups such as the Centralink team where I sometimes help out.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned a lot about networking as part of my job along with many new practical things just by working closely with so many extremely intelligent people. I have found that working practically has helped me learn far more than I ever would have doing anything else. That being said I have completed many courses as part of my apprenticeship and some just to improve my knowledge. There are many resources given to me for further study if I would want to gain more.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I have faced a few bumps along the way as I joined during the pandemic, this caused my practical site visits to be on hold for a while as well as meaning I had to change my GK coach 5 times through my time. I found that having a will structured team with dedicated assistance whenever needed helped me through all the bumps continue smoothly through my apprenticeship.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Siemens are very good at handling new apprenticeships. Each apprentice has a line manager who is responsible for them who meets them monthly at the least (Often more frequently). There is a dedicated apprentice manager to ensure that communication between the apprentice and the training provider is clear and understood as well as ensuing that the apprentice is comfortable. There is also all of the other apprentices who are likely to help with any issue that might occur, As well as the training coach who ensures that the apprentice stays on track with the course.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • There are so many future opportunity's you are guaranteed to find something you like within the company. The things you learn and pickup from working with other likeminded individuals helps with work and personal use (My personal computer runs so much more efficiently now). Plus not to mention through all of this you get paid alongside it.
