Work Experience Student Review

I was doing my work experience, and everyday I was in a different department, I started out in litigation and compliance on Monday, after having several presentations and health and safety checks and receiving my pack. Although I found litigation the worst, but this may have been due to not being with a trainee and being with a gap year student, who had been away for a while and had only just come back, and had nothing herself to do, litigation ran over to Tuesday due to only having an hour in litigation on Monday. Then I was in P & E and E & I, which is what they call it, but its planning and environment, and energy and infrastructure on Wednesday. Which I sat in one of the trainees training session, it was really confusing but so enjoyable at the same time, due to not understanding the terminology, but having some sort of knowledge, something else I liked about Planning was that the trainee I had, gave me work that he had to do previously but before doing this, he sat me down and explained what they did in planning, what planning was so I found that good, but the work he set me was; 2 scenarios, summarising an article for a magazine they give to clients, and finally he asked me to do some research on a topic, which he had forgotten to do, and the deadline was the end of the day, so I found it good to be doing actual Trainee work, but before I finished he took me into a meeting room and spoke about the work I had done, whether it was correct or not and where I could improve if I was to do it again. And on Thursday I was in banking, and the trainee, sat me down and spoke to me about banking, but due to having a job which centers around certain computer program's and files and documents I knew more about banking then any other sectors, so this meant I felt a little more at home with banking, due to doing for my job. Although he gave me this grid to do, which I'm not going to lie, took me the majority of the day, but he came and found me and showed me how to fill in some forms and how you have to check specific details, like is there a number wrong in the companies code, and things like that. And finally I was in property investment with a trainee, I personally found property slow and a bit boring, but to each their own, in property I had a sit down meeting with the trainee, where she explained what property investment was. And then she asked me to do a scenario and to fill out the application form for that scenario and then she asked me to fill out a similar application form for a real case. Whilst I was in the middle of this, I was asked did I want to sit in a meeting with a solicitor whilst they talked about a recent case they were dealing with, and I went. I personally liked how they explained to me, what they were talking about and how it was, they were on about a tax they have to fill the applications for and how grueling it is. and then she asked to fill a report out and write a letter. Although at first I was really scared and nervous about coming into a big firm like Pinsent Masons, I quickly realised there was nothing to be scared about, everyone from the staff are amazing and they are so nice, and the layout is so easy to remember as it's the same on every floor. I personally loved Planning the most, but everyone is different. I also liked how Pinsent Masons seem to work as a team and crossing through the departments, as for example Property had a problem they spoke to Tax and it was sorted within minutes. what I also liked was the idea, that you weren't just introduced to trainees, I met several solicitors, associates, senior associates, partners and I even met the bug guys.

I loved this programme, it has made me to want and push for more work experience. I also loved how you weren't pushed aside they treated you as an equal.

I found it very organised and structured, you were always doing something, if your trainee couldn't find you something to do then they would ask someone else if they had something else for you to do.

I received loads of support from the women who was running it and I found the trainees to be very helpful if I got stuck with anything.

I also found the women running the work experience to be very helpful.

I found it so fun, and it's not grueling like you would think going from 8:30 to 2:30 to a 9:30 to 5:30 hours, the time flies by
