1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
I am a higher level IT apprentice. I am working on a asp.net project. This involves coding, testing, database work and documentation. I deal with team leaders, project managers and scrum masters daily. I do a lot of database work creating stored procedures and tables.
2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
I love my job, I'm working in a good, helpful team in a supportive company. I enjoy the work very much as it piques my interest.
4. How valued do you feel by Atos?
Due to being on a growing project I am beginning to feel more valued within the company due to some corporate members of ATOS viewing and requesting the project.
5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
It is reasonably well structured between workplace learning and in centre training. However, we had been in the company for a month and had already done 2 weeks in centre training before we had our in centre induction. Apart from that it is well structured.
6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
I am mixed on this as although they are supportive during the training blocks, the assignment deadlines are fairly erratic. A lot of assignment deadlines clash from the competency units and the assessments from centre. A lot of people have required extensions to stop assignments mounting up.
6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
Our employer lets us take time off projects to complete any coursework that is due which is a valuable activity. This is because although project work is important, ATOS want to make sure we get the necessary qualifications therefore adjusts our schedules to fit our QA work.
7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
Very well, I can afford to travel to work and live out of with extra on the side to make purchases.
8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
I play football with the guys from work on a thursday evening and we also went for a meal at christmas. Apart from that there is not much more.
9. Would you recommend Atos to a friend?
Atos are very helpful and the team is extremely supportive. The pay is good and the future plans for the apprentices is very bright.
10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Atos?
Make sure you are well prepared for not just an interview but also team building exercises as the assessment day is a very wholesome process that looks at all aspects of your abilities.
