  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My current role at Troup Bywaters + Anders has allowed me to bring effective yet innovative content ideas to fruition. Crafting engaging copy for social media, designing eye-catching and modern graphics through Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator programmes, managing email marketing campaigns via Mailchimp, delivering in-house social media engagement training to staff, building landing pages for key calendar events and initiatives, all whilst working towards achieving a first in my Digital Marketing Degree Apprenticeship at London Southbank University.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am constantly encouraged by my teams and line manager to further my personal development through CPDs, in-house initiatives and life-long learning. Recently, I was given the opportunity to undertake external copywriting training through the Chartered Institute of Marketing to broaden my knowledge and skills and build a solid foundation for myself in the copywriting craft. As a business we also have 24/7 access to our Learning and Development wheel in which we can browse and undertake various training courses such as, 'Effective Decision Making' or 'Apprenticeship Mentoring'.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I can confidently say that the programme has exceeded all of my expectations. We are a close-knit team who understand the importance of delivering high-quality work, whilst also enjoying and feeling happy in our environment which ultimately starts with the company culture. TB+A pride themselves on being the best at everything they do, from investing in their people to spearheading the decarbonisation of the built environment and this reflects in both the people and culture, which makes it a great place to work.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Since joining TB+A, it's been clear where I fit into the team and wider business and how my role can evolve as I progress and take on more responsibilities. I am trusted by both my line manager and employer to manage and oversee tasks individually which gives me a great sense of achievement. The apprenticeship has not only delved into the different aspects of digital marketing but also the wider business modules, such as economics and people management which have helped develop my knowledge and skills further.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I cannot fault the accessibility, nor the quality of support received from my employer. With dedicated mentors, line manager support, 24 hour helplines which can be accessed through our Employee Assistance Programme, wellbeing webinars and 26 trained Mental Health First Aiders, there is always guidance and help on hand when I might need it.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support received from my training provider could definitely be improved in some areas, particularly throughout the EPA stage of my apprenticeship. More clarity on the processes and assessment criteria would help as I have felt like I have been left to my own devices a little, without much guidance or support from the University. With that being said, I cannot fault TB+A and their attitude towards helping me through this process.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Having a wider understanding of digital marketing and business processes paired with relevant theoretical knowledge and practical application really helps to fast-track and enhance my development. Completing my degree whilst working on live projects and campaigns provides me with an opportunity to identify relevant trends and / or theories and use them to inform our marketing strategy.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is always something to be a part of or get involved in at TB+A, whether that's Mental Health Awareness Week, Sustainability Week, group socials, professional networking events or training to become a qualified Mental Health First Aider. TB+A recognise the value of investing in their people and the importance of adding value and that is what makes the company culture so enjoyable and inclusive.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Troup Bywaters + Anders to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • You will not regret joining TB+A! Rarely do you find an employer that cares so much about their people and the environment. Social value and sustainability is extremely hot on the agenda right now and it feels good to be part of a company that is committed to making positive change and actually does what they say they're going to do!

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Troup Bywaters + Anders?
  • Above anything, it's important to be yourself. When applying for an apprenticeship you will not have all the answers, knowledge or skills straight away and whilst I'd definitely recommend brushing up on your knowledge about the role you're applying for, showcase your personality and be enthusiastic about joining the company!
