  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My current role is split. I am an Operations and Communications lead for my team, where I am responsible for team updates, finances and coordination of our assets. I am also working as a Business Analyst, helping to design and develop new, innovative tools that we can take to market across EMEIA.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • In my current role, I have developed my communication skills and ability to change my language and style to meet the target audience/stakeholder group. This is extremely important skill to have when working with a variety of social styles and people of different abilities and levels as I am responsible for updating the team and making sure we are working efficiently.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Overall I have really enjoyed the program - the team have been so welcoming and I have felt support by EY throughout the program. I have been encouraged to try new things and have had the opportunity to grow my technical and soft skills in a safe and supported environment. I enjoy having as split role as my days are always different and I get to work with lots of different team members.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • EY provide initial training for the job role, and offer additional resources for individuals to carry on with this learning and develop further. They also provide all individuals with a work counsellor who is there to support you throughout the process and any questions. EY give the allocated time off the job to complete studying necessary to pass the apprenticeship.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • EY have a structure in place to support all new joiners. They offer a buddy system when you first join, to help you settle into the role and office environment. They also provide a work counsellor, who is their to support and guide you throughout your time at EY. This is someone more senior than you and is there to support with questions, issues and promotions.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • QA offer a skills coach to all apprentices, who is there to support and guide through the program. However, in my experience I have found this a waste of time, and I do not feel confident in QA to listen to my feedback and improve their services. I do not enjoy studying with QA.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Unfortunately the topics covered during the QA modules do not align with the work I do. Whilst most modules have not been applicable, I understand that I have had the opportunity to improve my written communication and presentation skills, which I have been able to use in my role at EY.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes! Within the first two weeks of starting at EY, I joined the netball team. Three years later I am now the co-captain of my team and enjoy playing weekly matches with my colleagues. There are also lots of team social events to get involved in, even throughout Covid-19, and lots of Networks such as the Women's network to get involved in. There are endless opportunities and something for everyone!

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • EY have a strong people culture and support their staff at all levels. I feel I work in a supportive and safe environment that allows me to be myself and try lots of different opportunities, despite being quite junior in a large organisation. Whatever your interests or skill set, there is a place at EY for everyone, and lots of opportunities to try new things.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • Be authentic - EY employ a person not a number, so make sure you show your personality throughout the application process. EY do not expect you to know everything when you join, so as long as you show passion and enthusiasm to learn and try new things, you will be halfway through the door already!
