1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As an apprentice with Network Rail, my duties entail supporting the maintenance teams to carry out routine maintenance of the railway infrastructure. I work both nightshift and dayshift to carry out these tasks. Tasks range from re-railing, re-sleepering, gauge rectification, and vegetation removal. Each day i communicate with my section manager, supervisor and colleagues within the team.

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Throughout my apprenticeship I have learnt many new skills such as planning jobs, carrying out jobs and effective communication skills. I have achieved 11 core track engineering compentencies whcih enable me to carry out tasks on my own. To gain these a strong knowledge base is required. I have also completed a level 3 NVQ and Level 3 ILM course which will stnad me in good stead for the future and my career within the rail industry.
