  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to learn the day to day activities of railway technicians. Over the course of my apprenticeship i am required to spend different amounts of time with different departments that operate on the infrastructure, including: Track maintenance, Track signalling, Technical office (Surveying), Ultrasonic testing of the rail and Electrification of the line. My discipline is track maintenance and it involves maintaining the tracks and geometry of which the trains run along. As the Track (Permanent way) discipline, we provide the base for the trains to run safely along.
