1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

telecommunications apprentice. telecommunications is the science of transmitting information/signnals to a distant reciever

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Synchronous digital hierearchy (SDH),transmission, fibre jointing, copper cable jointing, public address, cctv, public emergency telephone systems (pets), telephone switches.

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

very much. at the begining i did not know much about telecomms, but with the apprentiship and following experienced technicians, i have learnt a lot.

4. How valued do you feel by Network Rail?

very much.

5. How well organised/structured is your programme?

its a very good structure. the first nine months is based in classroom training learning the basics on engineering, and then the rest is as an apprentice on the job following experienced technicians.

6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?

we have personal development coaches that guide us through our apprentiship

6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?

my employer gives me a lot of support.

7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?

the salary is sufficient for an apprentice scheme, but it will be nice if it was more.

8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?

no. any social activities are planned by individual members of the team to meet each other after work, but not much is planned by the organisation

9. Would you recommend Network Rail to a friend?

Yes

9b. Why?

apprentice schemes are good because you are learning on the job, following experienced technicians, that way you get to learn more than just classroom work

10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Network Rail?

just be yourself when it comes to interviews, talk about your favourite subjects for example football teams .
