  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day includes opening and closing the store, planning the day ahead for both myself and my colleagues. Dealing with customers both retail and trade. Processing orders, accepting deliveries and processing these in to our system. Till work, cash handling and end of day banking and safe access.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • From my apprenticeship I have gained many skills which have gained me a promotion to the job role I am in now. I learned to manage, delegate and operate a team whilst also gaining confidence in my new role. My apprenticeship taught me how to use my skills to excel.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my apprenticeship. Every session was interesting and I looked forward to going to each. Being able to use my learning log to detail my experience of the workshops and the work we completed helped me to further condense my knowledge. My mentor and workshop leader were excellent.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My apprenticeship was well organised with a full schedule planned in advance which allowed me to work this in to my work rota. This allowed me to utilise my time and allow myself plenty of time to successfully complete the work and keep in contact with my mentor very regularly/.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer was very supportive and encouraging throughout my whole apprenticeship. Due to the Covid19 pandemic my apprenticeship took longer to complete and adjustments has to be made to make this possible. This was done very effectively and allowed myself to complete this and gain a grade of distinction overall.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I absolutely cannot fault the training provider, they were absolutely fantastic. All parties involved went above and beyond to give me the best training and experience. Even with the situation of Covid19 they made the necessary changes and adjustments to allow use the work I had completed to finish my apprenticship.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification allowed me use the training and skills I had learned to progress and excel in my role and this led to me being promoted to assistant store manager which had been a goal of mine and played a massive part in my decision to undertake the LEAP apprenticeship.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At the moment there aren't any extra curricular activities that I am aware of. As we are part of a national company which is split in to regions it is hard to organise and regular events. As a region we do try to arrange at least one night together per year.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Travis Perkins Plc to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Travis Perkins provided me with the opportunity to take part in the apprenticeship, without them it would not have been possible. Being assigned a mentor for the program was a massive help and the support I received was amazing nothing was too much trouble or inconvenience for [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] at anytime.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Travis Perkins Plc?
  • All the years working with Travis Perkins Plc have been great. The opportunities they provide to their staff is second to none. If anyone is thinking of applying I would absolutely encourage them to do so. I have nothing but thanks and praise to everyone involved at the TP group.
