  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day-to day basis, I will be supporting the jobs concerning the experienced associates in my team. this often entails producing or editing schematics and schedules. I will be given data based on the building, often in the form of a spreadsheet, which i will use to produce drawings.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Each apprentice has their own line manager, they are responsible for setting work for the apprentices. My line manager has been very attentive and organised in preparing work for me, whenever I am in need of a new task they are ready for me. I begun my apprenticeship with simple tasks and slowly they became more challenging, this allowed me to progress; I believe the I have been developing at a good pace due to a well structured programme

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer often comes over and we will discuss various things, whether it is work related or not. this is a good thing as it makes working easier and less confusing. often working as a team can make jobs pass quicker as tasks can be collaborated on and communication is at a much higher level. this is all a product of having good support from your employer which i do

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The one issue i have had with the apprenticeship has been support with the university course. the module content is not too complex, yet i often find myself falling behind the lectures. Along with other students who are colleagues at the same workplace, we have found that the lecturers are not the best at their jobs, they are often unorganized and haven't the best teaching skills. the lesson plans for certain modules often fall apart and we will spend majority of lesson time catching up last weeks work .

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • the more the module content's complexity increases, the more it applies better to my role as an apprentice. i do find the stuff we do manage to learn at university does apply well to the job, it helps your understanding of why you are completing a certain task and how that actually contributes to a job as a whole

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • the workplace often offers opportunities for extra curricular activities such as work socials and other sporting events like 5 a side tournaments. both of these are great times to socialise with colleagues on a very different level to that on an everyday basis at work. my fist couple socials offered me an opportunity to get to know my team a lot better and these were key moments in integrating into the group properly.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Troup Bywaters + Anders to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel the company is a very welcoming one that has a large focus on its apprentices this produces a great environment for young professionals to begin their careers, working together under the influence of supportive, organised supervision. I have not had a single issue with the company and would see anyone interested in engineering finding themselves happy here

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Troup Bywaters + Anders?
  • Show your interest in building services, the role is one that many hardworking students could complete, yet to actually thrive in the industry a greater understanding of the extended building services sector is a great tool to have. Be it an interest in sustainability or mechanical systems, having an inside perspective on the job role and knowing how you can actually apply that to the role is very useful when applying .
